There's a locus of malignant energy around the base of the Pentacade. It's boiling over with magic from the Shrouded Realm, almost corrupting as soon as it does, making the Wound grow faster than it ever has. Sandrakk's tampering with the Fonts has something to do with it-- he's unable to hold all of the magic he's trying to control.
