Turns out that older constructs eventually start to leak their... thought patterns, I guess, as they become more intelligent. It takes the shape of this metallic goo-foam stuff (look, just go with it). As these metal memories overlap, they start forming tendrils, webbing, and anchor-like nodes to hold all of it together.
