If the Pentad has counted it right, this world's nearly fifteen hundred years old. The War, though? Well, it's been waging for around fifteen thousand. See, we humans have been different things through the worlds we've known-- starting as wee little urges that shed from gods thinking too much, to vibrant and young masters of eating each other with sticks, and up and up and up, til we were the twelve-foot tall (and right statuesque) Aristeya who drank oceans and threw up whole cities until we fell and broke our bodies into the shapes we wear now.

But one thing was common to whichever form we humans took-- our unending greed for magic. And what's war, except for greed that's found a structure?
