Mageslayers. Witch-takers. Hexbrands are assassins whose specific targets are magni, and it takes a magnus to be one because... well, I don't really know much about that whole set of traditions. I also don't know why it surprised me that Hauser was one. It makes perfect sense for the Immortals to have a hexbrand on the team.
