Immortals of Aveum:Yltheum (story)

From Aveum Wiki

Location: Yltheum Fields. Fortress interior. Jak sits and smokes next to a fellow soldier, who is wrapping his wounded arm. Jak is similarly injured.

Lucian Soldier: Grand Magnus on deck!

Jak rises. The other soldier attempts to rise despite his injuries, but Jak motions him to sit back down and passes his cigarette. Jak lines up with the other soldiers to receive the Grand Magnus, Kirkan.

Lucian Soldier: At attention!

Kirkan: Thank you, Marshall.

Kirkan: Anyone that stood up needs to stay that way. Their next wave is moving in and we've got positions that need bodies. The Rasharnians capture this leyline, we can all lay back down permanently.

She walks down the line of soldiers and turns to one of them.

Kirkan: You're with Barker, right? I need him to line up his strikers along the eastern wall. There's a red division on its way.

Lucian Soldier: Yessir!

The soldier she was addressing leaves, and Kirkan turns to Jak. They talk as they walk.

Kirkan: Round two.

Jak: Rasharnians haven't had enough yet?

Kirkan: We haven't given them enough yet.

Jak flexes his bandaged arm.

Kirkan: That still work?

He lifts his other arm and switches on his sigil.

Jak: The important one does.

Kirkan: Good.

They pass a young soldier who is looking particularly scared. Kirkan stops and addresses him.

Kirkan: You're Hallon Mede's oldest, aren't you?

Silas: Yessir.

Kirkan: You got a fear in your eye you don't need today, son.

Silas: Sorry, sir.

Kirkan: Today's the day they turn tail. I know these things. I told your father the same thing at Sundown Ten when he was your age. Sure enough it happened then too.

Silas: Bit easier to swallow when you're immortal, sir.

Kirkan: That's just a silly name to make our enemies cry at night. But this?

She taps her fist on his breastplate.

Kirkan: This is real. No Rasharnian spell gets through this today.

Silas: Thank you, General.

The boy looks relieved and Kirkan moves on further into the fort.

Jak: Surprised you are still here, sir. Isn’t Selection today?

Kirkan: You know it is, Jak.

Jak: And both of us know I'm ready.

Kirkan: Guess it's too bad you're here then.

Transition to gameplay. Jak fights his way through the trenches until he arrives at the front lines. As he fights off more Rasharnians, a Howler arrives. It eats a Magnus next to Jak and then picks Jak up and carries him into the sky over the battlefield.

Jak: Uhhh!

Jak: Oh shit!

Jak: Let! Me! Go!

He shoots the Howler right in the face, and it drops him. After he recovers from the fall, Jak receives a Farcall from Kirkan.
