23rd of the Month of Awe
High Field Marshall Kirkan of the Lights Army has been my mentor for the past 5 years. She is also the Grand Magnus of the Immortals, and in addition to all those titles, she is tough, fair, and ruthless. Maybe someday I'll live up to her expectations of me.

23rd of the Month of Awe No one else would notice, but Kirkan speaks differently to me now that I'm an Immortal. The smallest of changes, something like pride or satisfaction, like she knew she would one day get me to this moment. It's a good feeling.

Luna told me that Kirkan is responsible for, well, sterilizing the magni families of Rasharn. Evidently, during a mission years ago, a strike team of Immortals managed to damage the leylines around that kingdom and now the Rasharnian people are no longer able to produce children with a connection to magic. Is this the mission that Sandrakk opposed? The one that made him refuse orders and ultimately got him exiled? More, is this what drove him to seek dominion over the Fonts? Do I even believe that Kirkan is capable of such an act?

Sometimes you reach a breaking point. Kirkan was hellbent on joining Sandrakk to kill the Pentacade, even after I showed her what I'd learned in the Shrouded Realm. I knew she was ruthless, but not like this. I'd always heard that her name was synonymous with winning at all costs-- I'd just never really believed how far she would go. It's a strange and painful thing to lose your mentor... and Kirkan was much more than that to me.

Selko says Kirkan's returned to the Northern Court and is likely to become Lucium's new Chancellor of Foreign Affairs. That puts her in a place to indirectly control the Lights Army. That's not going to find itself at odds with the Immortals and our mission at all. Right?
